I don't know what you think about ZFS but for me it is the best filesystem.
Linus has some logical points about the kernel and ZFS, and even about licensing issues, but is there any filesystem on Linux that is on par with ZFS?
I say use ZFS if your OS supports it. I use it on macOS on an external drive and it works just fine. Maybe it is a little slow when I copy data to the drive but performance is not crucial for me in this case. But if you use it, use it in the correct way: ZFS mirror.
If you are choosing the right OS for ZFS, look at FreeBSD or some of the OpenSolaris-based OS's like OmniOS or Illumos.
