The new MacBook Air was released and I liked it very much.
It has a 13” display which is a display size I very much prefer on a laptop. It has the new scissor keyboard, although I had an issue with only one key on my 2016 13” MacBook Pro and it went away.
The new MacBook Air seems to be pretty fast according to some Geekbench 5 benchmarks. If you are buying the new Air, buy it with the i5 or i7 CPU (see other recommendations from Thomas Brand). I have 2 cores in my MBP and it can’t hold up with my 5 years older iMac with 4 cores.
And perhaps the most important thing, at least to me, it has no Touch Bar. Yikes.
Please don’t forget the T2 chip (yes, the previous MacBook Air model had it already). I’m not speaking about security, I’m speaking about video encoding. See, my MBP is bad at encoding of H.265 video. I record movies on my Fujifilm camera in 4K and with the HEVC codec but can’t play them smoothly on the MBP. I convert those videos to 1080p with QuickTime so that I can watch them smoothly on the MBP.
